VISION + MISSION
VISION: to see NEW LIFE in JESUS all along our COASTLINE.
MISSION: to be community LOVING God, CONNECTING together, and LIVING on MISSION in our world.
We gather on Sunday mornings...
to LOVE and worship Jesus through learning, singing, serving, giving, praying, fellowshipping, & taking communion.
We gather in Connect groups...
to CONNECT together and build like-minded fellowship through the application of God's Word & prayer for one another.
We scatter throughout our communities ...
to live on MISSION with Christ in our homes, neighborhoods, schools, businesses, & beaches.
OUR HISTORY
In October of 1983, Pastor John Spencer, his wife Lynn, and a small group of roughly 30 people gathered on a Sunday morning at Oriole Beach Elementary School in Gulf Breeze, FL as “New Life Christian Fellowship.”
Since that time, the Lord has continued to add to the church. The church has purchased land, built buildings, been identified by the name Calvary Chapel Gulf Breeze (circa 1993-2010), and now Coastline Calvary Chapel. God has raised up countless ministries, local and global outreaches, church planters, and missionaries who have been sent out all over the world.
In 2010, God began to expand our vision from Gulf Breeze to see “NEW LIFE in JESUS all along our COASTLINE” by planting collaborative Coastline Calvary Chapel churches who exist to be “a community LOVING God, CONNECTING together, and LIVING on MISSION in our world.”
In 2013 Coastline Calvary Chapel Destin was officially formed, and in 2015, Coastline Calvary Chapel Navarre was planted.
We dream of seeing a family of Calvary Chapel churches along our coastline in this generation so that the next generation can build upon the unity and collaboration to focus on a global initiative to see NEW LIFE in JESUS in all the world through planting churches who Love God, Connect together, and LIVE on MISSION in their world.
OUR LEADERSHIP
JESUS
The church belongs to Jesus, Coastline Destin is His church (1 Peter 5.1-4). Underneath the guidance of Jesus are leaders who are simply qualified Christians who follow Jesus and encourage others to follow Him.
ELDERS:
Jesus calls qualified men to lead His church as Elders. 1 Timothy 3 & Titus 1 describe an elder as one who leads his family well, has a record of serving Jesus well both in the church and in everyday life, a thorough knowledge of the Bible, has a mature Christian walk, and a good reputation both in and out of the church.
The primary duties of an elder include praying and studying Scripture, leading the vision of the church, caring for the people of the church, teaching, living lives that are exemplary, protecting the people of the church from false doctrine and teachers, and developing other leaders.
Coastline Destin is lead & cared for by a team elders; Pastor Jess McCurnin as the leader of the Elders.
DEACONS:
Jesus calls men and women to serve His church in an a role that is commonly called deacons, which is simply translated as “servant” (1 Timothy 3.11-13, Romans 16.1-2).
Scripture includes standards of character and spiritual integrity as imperative for this role, yet no particular gifting or ability is specified, thus the “servants” are those who partner with the elders to serve the practical needs of the church.
Although we don’t employ the title of deacon, Coastline Destin is served and cared for by a staff and team of volunteers.
NONPROFIT BOARD:
The Nonprofit Board is body required by US law. The board exists for the financial and legal accountability and integrity of the church. A primary qualification for a board member is an individual’s spiritual integrity, love for Jesus, His church, and capability with financial and legal matters.
SUMMARY:
Coastline Destin belongs to Jesus, and ultimately it is HIS church! The church is lead by qualified elders, served by a team of deacons, and assisted with legal and financial integrity by our nonprofit board.
